Ten of Swords

Swords

Ten of Swords tarot card

Upright

Like the Death card, the Ten of Swords represents endings - one that is sudden, unforeseen, deeply wounding, sometimes caused by betrayal. Receiving this card upright can signify utter ruin and suffering. As much as we try to prevent this collapse, the card suggests the end was inevitable. Although this card is associated with painful truths and tragedy, it is important to view it as a door to a beginning. The man on the card lies facing the horizon, where the sun is just beginning to rise. Like him, if you look at what lies ahead, you might see the glimmer of a new dawn.

Reversed

Just like the upright position, the reversed Ten of Swords signifies a heartbreaking and inevitable end. However, the interpretation can go two ways. On one hand, it can mean avoiding reality by holding on to the past or refusing to accept accountability for what happened or for the changes you can implement. On the other, it can bring a more positive message: With the end of a dark period comes a brand new chapter. You are slowly seeing the light. Either way, healing begins when you recognize that endings pave the way for another cycle to start - one you have the power to control.
