Temperance
Major Arcana

Upright
Like the angel inscribed on it, with one foot in the water and one on land, the Temperance card calls for balance and prudence. In the upright position, it serves as a reminder to be patient and dip one foot first as a test before diving in completely. Practicing moderation leads to a calm and harmonious life, especially in the long run.
If you find yourself at a fork in the road and this card appears, it may serve as a gentle reminder to thoughtfully evaluate your priorities and avoid hasty decisions. Often, slow and steady wins the race, with growth and progress developing gradually.
Reversed
Where there is a lack of temperance, one is likely to lead a life of excess. This is the lesson that Temperance in reverse teaches. It either serves as a warning or may indicate that there is already an imbalance in your life that needs to be addressed to prevent further strain and chaos.
The card may suggest a tendency to act recklessly, lack planning, or exhibit impatience as potential culprits. Sometimes, in our pursuit of purpose or a desired outcome, we choose extremes or take steps that lead to instant gratification without considering long-term consequences. This card asks us to evaluate the root of the discord so that we may be able to restore balance.
