The Four of Pentacles is one of those cards that carry positive and negative implications. On the upside, an Upright card suggests stability earned through dedication and prudent management of resources. Your cautiousness in handling finances affords you financial security. However, such cautiousness borders on clinginess to possession - materially or otherwise - making you resistant to change, stagnant, and unable to explore promising opportunities. While this card affirms your sensible financial judgment, it also reminds you that to grow and move forward, we must let go of control and our fear of loss. Wealth is futile without freedom; it is best enjoyed, or shared, in balance with other things in life.

Reversed, the Four of Pentacles can amplify the negative connotations of the card. Prudence can easily turn to greed, making you prone to materialism and suspiciousness. It can also mean recklessness with finances. You may be splurging excessively on yourself or others at the risk of depleting your resources. It’s a call for greater accountability and a reassessment of priorities. Alternatively, a reversal can mean a sort of release - habits, fears, attitudes, or earthly attachments that no longer serve you - giving you a sense of freedom and receptiveness to sharing what you have with others.
